This fabulous coffee table is a Takhat and has particularly beautiful carving on the edge and corners.
Takhats were originally for use as daybeds by the wealthy merchant classes in India. This piece has been sun bleached over may years. It is intricately carved in the style classically seen in Hyderabad. Takhats were particularly popular in Rajasthan, specifically the Shekavati area. They are usually made from roheda wood which is a variety of Acacia although this particular example is teak.
